For readers in the Canberra area, you will be pleased to know that the Lifeline Book Fair is on again! The 12-14th February is a time for books, none of this romantic nonsense relating to Valentine’s Day.
For those who don’t live in the area, or who have never been, this is THE book fair. A large pavilion, filled with row-upon-row of tables which are positively overflowing with donated books, all of which are more reasonably priced than the most reasonable second-hand bookshop. It is a massive fundraiser for the very awesome Lifeline, but is also a wonderland for those of us who lack will-power when faced with stories trapped between pages.
This year, I plan on taking in $50 cash (plus my entry gold coin donation). My eftpos cards will be left at home to avoid spending a mortgage repayment on years’ worth of reading. Just $50 to buy as many intriguing books as I can find.
I also a wish list with a few titles I will be specifically looking for.
The Catcher and the Rye by J. D. Salinger
My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
I’m also keen for a couple of romance novels as they are incredibly cheap and sometimes, I like to read a book knowing that it will turn out ok.
Stay tuned because the next post will show the stash.
