Booklovers tend to have a few dreams in common; the perfect book (complex characters, an intriguing plot and sentences which make the heart melt), the perfect place to read (a comfortable chair, good lighting, your choice of beverage, perhaps a crackling fire but otherwise quiet), and a good library.
Some people might say, ‘Library, no. I buy my books.’ But then they start to create their own library. Others may object to the physical book, claiming that eBooks or audio books are better. But they still need somewhere either to borrow said digital files or store the files they’ve bought.
Then there are those of us who are completely besotted with the physical book and decide they should use books as their primary object to decorate their homes. I would now like to welcome my fellow bibliophiles.
It was the idea of the perfect library which recently took over my home. Drawing on inspiration from Pinterest, Disney and someone I know who had just installed their own bookshelf, I started to design my own floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelf; aka my own library.
Now, I must confess that I had very little budget to create this dream, nay, life goal. But achieve it I would! So, my brilliant creation is an Ikea Billy hack.
Once the planning was complete, I took time off work, enlisted the help of my amazing dad, and we transformed my lounge room from something standard, into something extraordinary.
Stay tuned as I talk you through each day of this dream-fulfilling build*.
*Spoiler alert: There was a re-enactment of the bookshop scene in Beauty and the Beast.
Good to see you blogging again Jenni! Can’t wait to go on this build journey with you.
Thank you Kate! It’s lovely to be back here. Let me know if you have any requests for conversations or short stories.
Yay! Will be lovely to follow your journey-to your dream or anywhere else. Bring it on!
